Deborah Kunic's interest in animals goes well beneath their outward form, revealing a keen eye for character as well as the aesthetics of nature. She is the gifted daughter of the artist Helen Kunic, and together they produce the "Gentle Art of Etching"exhibitions.
Born in Chicago, Deborah came to California at the age of two with her parents.  They settled on the San Francisco peninsula.  Deborah's interest in animals continued to grow.  She joined the 4-H group of young farmers and spent countless hours raising, showing and caring for farm livestock, many of them winning awards.
Graduate of the Covenant of the Sacred Heart High School in Menlo Park, She went on to graduate in Animal Science and Dairy Husbandry from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA.
A trip to England and France viewing the art within the museums and galleries was very inspirational to the young artist.  A special delight was a stay at a farm in France.
She lives in the Santa Lucia Mountains on a ranch with her two children and their many animals, including the horses which are often the models for her prints and paintings.  Deborah as written and illustrated several books about animals and now spends much of her time painting and printmaking with their animals as her subjects.
Deborah has long been fascinated by the carousel.  Some of her earliest memories are of riding the merry-go-rounds at the Fleishacker Zoo and in the Golden Gate Park.  The beautifully carved animals, their captivating expressions, and the music...all so magical; the memories continue to intrigue her.  In her uniquely whimsical style, Deborah has created a series of carousel animals in hand colored etchings.  "Red Plumes", "Podrky's "Wild Ride", "Carousel Flight", "Wild n' Wooly" and "Sea Otter Sailing", are but a few of the titles in this enchanting series, in which she has captured the very essence of the carousel.
