Artist's Statement

Born, reared and educated in Arkanas, I worked in mental health, and in county and state government after graduating with a degree in sociology and psychology,  My graduate work in fine arts and the University of Arkansas and personal associations from that period proved to be the catalyst for my ongoing pursuits as an artist,  For many years after leaving Arkansas for Texas, I designed and crafted stained glass.  My designs can be found in many Southern churches and private residences from Texas to the East Coast.  Time and circumstances refocused my efforts back to painting where I've remained active to the present.

I thing of my work as a visual for of jazz and a reaction to the conflicts which exist between social structures and personal impulses.  Some of these conflicts I see as absurd, others as dangerous, grim faced devotions to home made deities.  My hope is that my work is not seen as opinion journalism, and I further hope that enough humor leaks out of what I do to hold the viewer's interest.  I'm not associated with andy school or social philosophy.

I work in acrylic on streched fabric surfaces and graphic works on paper.  My works are available in galleries nationwide.
