John Carl was born and raised in Globe, Arizona. He spent much of his childhood on a ranch where he and his father would observe nature through the lens of a camera. Not only were the results of a beautiful photograph developed, but an everlasting appreciation for this special time together and the art of photography.
John Carl took his first photography class at the age of fifteen, this became the interest he would excel at for years to come. Teachers and mentors encouraged him to pursue a career in photography because of his skills and keen eye.
After high school John Carl moved to Seattle, Washington to attend The Art Institute of Seattle. He chose this area of the country because of the quality of the program at the school and the inspiring environment in the Pacific Northwest. John Carls passion for photograhy continued develop along with his self confidence to pursue a career in the arts after college. His first show as a curator was in Feburary 1999.
John Carl now resides in Las Vegas, Nevada which is home to his favorite subjects: ghost towns, abandoned cars and the desert.
